All you need to know about Megan, Duchess of Sussex

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex is an American member of the British Royal Family. Her birth name is Rachel Meghan Markle. Incidentally, the character that she played in the successful American legal drama ‘Suits’ is also named Rachel.

American lineage

She was born on 4th August 1981 to an American couple Doria Ragland and Thomas Markle Sr. in Los Angeles, California. Her mother Doria is an African-American while her father is Caucasian this makes her mixed-raced woman.

Before her marriage to prince Harry, she was in a relationship with Trevor Engelson a Jewish American actor and producer. The couple married in September 2010 and got divorced in August 2013.

And yes! the Church of England did allow Prince Harry to marry a divorced woman. In recent times, the Church of England has become less rigid about divorced individuals remarrying.

Moreover, Prince Harry received the assent of his grandmother the Queen, who is also the ceremonial head of the Church of England, to marry. This shows how far the Royals have come, especially when the Queen once had refused to permit her sister Princess Margaret to marry a divorced man in the 1950s.

Also, there is little possibility of Prince Harry making King. So the pressure on his personal life is also less in comparison.

Not the first American to be part of the British Royal Family

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex, is not the first woman to be part of the British Royal family.

Wallis Simpson or Bessie Wallis Warfield, now deceased, was an American socialite who went on to marry King Edward VIII in 1937. Reportedly he had quit the throne for her in 1936. At the time Wallis Simpson was shunned for having two former husbands who were living when she married King Edward VIII.

Full-time philanthropy

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex, was involved in Humanitarian activities right from when she was a teenager.

Becoming a part of the Royal Family means she will have to perform the duties of a full-time Royal. As reports have suggested, Megan, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex, volunteered in a soup kitchen when she was only 15. Now, being placed in such an influential position, she is sure to bring some much needed positivity with her charity work.

Former blogger

She was a lifestyle and food blogger. Her social media accounts and her blog The Tig had an avid fan following.

It was surely hard on all her fans when she deleted her social media accounts and shut down her blog now that she has moved on to a much bigger role in life.
